The 2013 Hyundai Accent lineup includes sedans, hatchbacks, automatics and sticks, but all of them achieve 40 mpg on the highway.

The Hyundai Accent sedan and hatchback are exceptional economy cars that offer great looks and outstanding value in a price-sensitive market.

Either transmission, automatic or stick, comes in at 30/40 mpg. Making it Hyundais third vehicle to hit the 40 mpg mark, joining the ranks of the Elantra Sedan and the Sonata Hybrid. When compared to other subcompacts and compacts in its sector, the Accent’s mpg easily stands out as impressive. The Ford Fiesta only manages 28/37 and the Honda Fit has 33 highway.

That leaves a pretty impressive driving range. Fill up the tank and the Accent could go as far as 450 miles without another stop. Wring it out, or leave in Sport, and you’re sure to land at the lower end of that scale however. The manual-transmission Accent has an “eco” shift light to help train you to use less fuel, though, while the automatic has an ActiveEco button that triggers early upshifts to improve gas mileage.

The Accent is powered by a 1.6-liter double overhead-cam engine that produces 138 horsepower and features variable valve timing. A six-speed manual transmission comes standard and a six-speed automatic transmission is optional. The Accent also received the rating of Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle.

The Accent receives several notable changes for the new 2013 lineup. The GS and GLS trims are now equipped with standard rear drum brakes. All trims gain standard power heater exterior mirrors. The GLS sedan now features standard air conditioning, remote keyless entry with panic button and a six-speaker audio system.

The Walking Dead is an American post-apocalyptic drama television series based on a comic book series by Robert Kirkman. The series stars Andrew Lincoln as Sheriff’s deputy who wakes up after being in a coma to find the world dominated by zombies. He sets out to find his family and other survivors along the way.

In season 2 the survivors make a pretty big deal over their Hyundai Tucson (which was part of a car give away sweepstakes), and now Hyundai is doing it again. The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has teamed up with Hyundai to create a zombie-proof car in honor of the 100th issue of the comic book.

Kirkman’s Skybound imprint and Hyundai present the Elantra GT Coupe sweepstakes. Kirkman did a promotional video, which can be viewed here, where he was quoted saying “but I do know a lot about zombie apocalypse and what I would like to have to survive. And so I think I’ll be able to come up with something that looks cool but may not be very practical or effective because I’m not good with physics and stuff like that. But it seemed like a fun challenge.”

Kirkman did in fact design a modified Hyundai for zombie-avoiding purposes. Key protective features of the vehicle include a spiked cow catcher for plowing through slow-moving zombie mobs, spinning blades protruding from the wheel hubs, slotted metal plates protecting the windows and a metal fence that pops up around the sunroof opening to create a protected firing position. The car runs on all-terrain rally style tires for high speed driving and has an old-school CB radio to communicate with other survivors.

The zombie-proof car will be on display at the San Diego Comic-Con this year, at the Hyundai Undead booth. Hyundai Phoenix fans can enter the sweepstakes now at http://www.hyundaiundead.com/. The sweepstakes ends July 31 and the grand prize winner gets a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT. For more information on the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT or on any Hyundai drop in to your Chapman Hyundai dealer.
