Each Purchase Results in Donation to Hope on Wheels

Every time someone buys a new vehicle at dealerships like Chapman Hyundai on Bell Road, the cure for childhood cancer gets just a bit closer. As of this year, Hyundai and its dealer partners have donated $115 million for pediatric cancer research through its Hyundai Hope on Wheels (HHOW) foundation. Since its inception in 1998, the program has provided funding for more than 700 research efforts at facilities and children’s hospitals in the United States. HHOW picks national ambassadors who are unfortunately familiar with the fight against cancer to travel the country and spread the message. This year, a pair of 12-year olds will be attending events and spreading a message of hope to patients across the country.

Hannah Adams was first diagnosed with cancer at age 5. Now in remission, Hannah is pursuing her interest in dance and music to set an example of what is possible for other victims of cancer. “Children diagnosed with cancer, along with their families, need the hope that I was given when going through treatments. What I want to tell other kids is that ‘life is precious, you never know what it has in store, but hope is always worth fighting for,’” she said.

Ryan Darby found out he had cancer six years ago but with the help of doctors and programs like HHOW has managed to continue spreading a message of hope. He loves playing all types of sports as well as speaking with young cancer patients and their families. “I want other children to know that even though cancer is a crazy disease, you can beat it!” he said. “For six years, I have been spreading awareness and I don’t want to stop now. It is going to take more than one 12-year-old boy to beat cancer, but I have done it before, and I won’t stop until we do it again together.”

Hyundai Doles Out $7.5 Million

Hyundai recently announced awards totaling $7.5 million in its HHOW Scholar and Young Investigator programs. Committed to the program until the words “your child has cancer” are never again spoken, the company has a goal of adding another $100 million donation to its staggering total. Through the efforts of the company, volunteers, the employees of your Phoenix Hyundai dealer, Chapman Hyundai on Bell Road, and the public, Hyundai anxiously longs for the day when HHOW is no longer necessary.
