Overview of the New and Improved 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

The 2015 Genesis is Hyundai’s luxury car that will compete with the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, Lexus GS, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Hyundai has decided to continue marketing the Genesis under the Hyundai brand instead of creating a whole new luxury name and line.

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is completely new, inside and out. It provides more luxury, a new attitude and a classy, contemporary appearance. This version is better prepared to compete with the midsize luxury powerhouses mentioned earlier, compared to the first generation model. It will definitely appeal to a younger affluent market due to the great emphasis placed on connectivity and infotainment systems.

The interior of the Genesis is sophisticated and stylish with real wood and metal accents in some models. The look and feel is clean and airy. Soft-touch fabrics and superb eye for detail are noticed throughout, and the color selection blends are pleasing visually. Notably, the new Genesis Coupe employs a user-friendly, centrally positioned scroll wheel together with push knobs. The look is a lot like Audi’s MMI system, which allows the driver to toggle through the gps navigation system, phone and more.

Similar to the interior, the Genesis’s exterior lines are clean and elegant. At the front, a new imposing grille leads into the Coupe’s long attractive lines that emphasize quality and refinement. The trunk has an aerodynamic sloping design.

Standard equipment includes navigation and Bluetooth, 9 air bags, hands free smart trunk opener, paddle shifters, and Blue Link infotainment system. Other standard features include heated front seats, 12 way adjustable driver power seat, push button start, and tire pressure monitoring.

The new Genesis provides an exceptional number of safety and convenience features, and for a considerably lower price than the competitors. The new AWD system called the HTRAC® will appeal to a wider market in the snowy areas of North America. The Genesis will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Ulsan Plant in Korea and will be on sale at Chapman Hyundai in the US in spring 2015.

The 2015 Genesis will offer V6 and V8 direct injection engines. Hyundai focused on improving drivability by improving low-end torque, and a reduction in vibration, noise and harshness. Both engines have 8-speed automatic transmissions but each will have their own gear ratios. The 3.8 -liter V6 will produce 311 horsepower and 293 lb-ft of torqu. The fuel economy is expected to be 18 mpg city and 29 mpg highway for the rear wheel drive model; and 16 mpg city and 25 mpg highway for the AWD model. The 5.0 V8 will output 420 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, with a fuel economy of 15 mpg city and 23 mpg highway.

Thanks to an updated and retuned suspension, the 2015 Genesis feels agile and responsive while being comfortable on the highway. This version definitely has the luxury car feel to it, not in the BMW 5 series class but it is responsive to driver input. Standard paddle shifters provide smooth shifts but in Sport mode, the shifts are more aggressive. In the normal or eco mode, the Genesis gives a smooth comfortable ride on the open road with a quiet interior cabin.
