Redesigned 2016 Hyundai Elantra Wows the Crowd at Chicago Auto Show

Recently at the Chicago Auto Show, Hyundai Motor America unveiled the refreshed 2016 Elantra GT with updated styling, and customer friendly technology and features. The front fascia is more distinctive and the 17″ alloy wheels further enhances the GT’s sporty looks. When you add the 2.0-liter gas direct-injected engine, everything comes together to provide a vehicle that has a dynamic look and feel. Elantra GT’s famous sporty design, sharp handling and roomy inside is reasonably priced too. The Elantra GT will be starting at $18,800 and will be at dealerships, like Chapman Hyundai, in March 2015.

The 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT is fitted with a 2.0-liter Nu engine, in which the driver will have the choice of a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The 6-speed automatic transmission will have SHIFTRONIC® manual shift control. The Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) system helps deliver high-pressure fuel, which will make the engine more responsive compared to non-GDI models. Fuel efficiency is improved due to the shorter, more direct path that gives more control over the fuel mixture. The engine weight is reduced by 30% with the use of lightweight intake manifolds. The Elantra GT outputs 173 hp and 154 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is 24 mpg city and 33 mpg highway and 27 mpg combined.

Hyundai’s ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design produces cars that are both defining and distinctive. The Elantra GT benefits from a 0.30 coefficient of drag because of this Fluidic design. The Elantra GT screams aerodynamics with its aggressive profile, low height and sleek side mirrors. Rocker panels are streamlined and tire gaps minimized, which adds up to lower wind resistance. This will ultimately give passenger a smooth and quiet ride.

The updated front grill on the Elantra GT gives it a distinctive and aggressive look that is more in line with the newer models of Hyundai. The wrap-around headlamps and sculptured hood creases add to the sporty look. The modern design is complete with sharp projector headlamps, fog lights and rear LED taillights.

On the interior, the Elantra GT has a 7-inch touch screen on the center console that also displays the rearview camera shots. The camera is tucked behind the Hyundai logo on the rear hatch and only appears when required.

Dual-zone climate controls provide a comfortable cabin for all riders and the panoramic sunroof provides ample sunlight. Sensors monitor the humidity levels and activate the automatic defogging system when necessary. The CleanAir Ionizer automatically cleans the air when the AC or heater is running. And speaking of heating, heated seats (suitable for those freezing winter days) come standard on all trims of the Elantra GT.
