Santa Fe Sport Production Coming to Alabama Hyundai Plant

2016 Santa Fe Sport

Increased Production to Help Satisfy Crossover-hungry Public

When Hyundai adds production of the popular Santa Fe Sport to the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) facility this summer, it’s with the intent of helping to satisfy a public that can’t get enough of fuel-efficient crossovers. “We’re very happy Hyundai has been able to make this change, which will result in more great Santa Fe crossovers available to our dealers and consumers,” according to Hyundai North America president Dave Zuchowski. “The new production will help us meet the growing demand for one of our most popular products.” Dealerships like Chapman Hyundai have been moving crossover vehicles at a record pace. People love the sporty feel and functionality of being able to carry everything from a large TV to a week’s groceries in one trip.

Next Few Months Spent Retooling

It will take a few months to get the plant ready for production of the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. Retooling, programming of manufacturing robots and other logistics will keep a crew busy until production can begin in the summer. The Santa Fe Sport will join the Sonata and Elantra on the production line in Alabama. “We’re thrilled to bring back another pillar of the Hyundai lineup to our production mix here at HMMA,” said vice president of production, Chris Susock. “We’ve been extremely proud to build both Sonata and Elantra on our assembly line for Hyundai in the U.S. and we will continue our tradition of quality and productivity with the addition of the Santa Fe Sport in 2016.”

New Santa Fe Provides Seating Up to Seven Passengers

Along with the smaller Tucson, the Santa Fe crossover provides Hyundai customers a peppy crossover that carries plenty of people and cargo. The 2016 Santa Fe hauls up to seven passengers while still achieving 25 miles per gallon on the highway. The base SE comes with a 12-way driver seat, including heat and lumbar support. Split-folding second row seats can be put in a variety of configurations, depending on whether you’re hauling a soccer team or a couple of sets of golf clubs. Projection headlights with LED accents and rear LED taillights, power side mirrors and rear-seat climate control are other popular features.

Limited Package Has Driver Assist Features

Head over to Chapman Hyundai and test drive the Santa Fe Limited to see how the latest driver assistance features work. Blind spot detection provides an audible alarm if you try and change lanes with someone beside you. Rear cross-traffic alert lets you know if a pedestrian or car is passing beside you, while lane change assist helps you safely move from one lane to another. Leather seats, a hands-free liftgate and second row captain’s chairs all add to the popularity of this sophisticated crossover vehicle.
